The Maker’s Table was born out of a desire to address a need for nutrition education among those facing inadequate access to individualized appointments with a dietitian due to limited insurance coverage, financial barriers, limited evening and weekend appointments, and language barriers. The Maker's Table's courses are uniquely available for purchase using Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards. Thank you to Thinkific and Stripe for making this possible! Opportunities for needs-based scholarships and institutional discounts are also available. If you are interested in this course but cannot make the investment at this time, noted below is a free resource I developed in 2020 when I was training to become a dietitian. I still stand by the information and recommendations written here; many points overlap with the points I share in this course, but the content is fairly distinct. Approach this free resource as a practical, self-guided workbook for developing intuitive eating skills with a biblical framework. I think it’s most useful for someone who struggles with food, body image, and exercise, but does not feel consumed and emotionally overwhelmed by disordered thoughts. This would also be an appropriate tool for someone to read through after reviewing this course’s content. This course, on the other hand, is focused more on Christian apologetics, where we concentrate on our liberation from the enemy’s lies and culture’s harmful dieting trends, discriminatory messages, and weight-biased lens through the Gospel. There’s an emphasis on our hearts, rebuilding our relationships with food, our bodies, and exercise with a foundation full of God-given truths, before we take external actions to care for ourselves in a way that glorifies God. Naturally, having been developed after a few more years of maturing in the Lord and walking alongside eating disorder patients as a pediatric dietitian, this course contains new information and recommendations to encourage and support you. An invitation to pursue body acceptance and stewardship through gentle nutrition.

Disclaimer

Please note that this course is not intended to diagnose nor treat an eating disorder. The purpose of this course is purely educational. It can be used as a complementary, therapeutic tool for someone under the expert care of a medical team during their eating disorder recovery, but it is not a substitute for the invaluable, individualized treatment needed. If you’re unsure whether you or a loved one are experiencing a true eating disorder or are struggling with disordered thoughts and unhealthy practices, please seek the support of an eating disordered trained doctor who can evaluate and determine whether higher levels of care are needed. As a dietitian myself, I wholeheartedly encourage you, even if you don’t have a diagnosed eating disorder, to also consider reaching out to a Health at Every Size dietitian, mental health expert, and/or trusted Christian mentor to come alongside you in this journey. You should not go through this alone.
